Traveling to Newton on Thursday, Sept. 26, the Lady Hawk Varsity volleyball team was looking for a win after falling to the Lady Indians at the Greenville Federal Invitational at the beginning of the season. Things started out well, though the first set came down to the wire with Newton taking it 22-25. MV came back strong in the second set posting a 25-16 victory. Again, in the third set it was back and forth, but a few errors for MV let Newton get ahead and finish first, 20-25. Hoping for another comeback in the 4th set, the Lady Hawks worked hard, but couldn’t get the ball to hit the floor as the scrappy Lady Indians picked up almost everything, capturing the win at 19-25.
Highs for the match were Kya Lavy with 4 aces and 2 blocks, Lindsay Johns with 3 aces and 6 kills, Taylor Stachler with 3 aces, 10 assists, and 2 blocks, Leah Scholl with 13 assists, Riley Price with 8 kills and 17 digs, and Ellie Reichard with 20 digs.
