MV hosted a WOHSBC Non-MAC Team Championship with the remaining schools of Ft. Loramie, Russia, and Ansonia. They battled thru 3 regular games and 2 baker games to determine a champion. The 1st round saw all the teams bowling within a 39 pin range, with Russia in the lead by only 17 pins, forecasting a down-to-the-last-pin day. In the 2nd round, MV jumped ahead a little, but everyone was still within range of coming back, as the lead was less than 85 pins. After the 3rd round, the Hawks were still in the lead by 167 pins, and Russia and Ft. Loramie were only separated by a count of 1. You never know how baker games will go for MV, so they really had to focus to stay in the lead. Even though they only threw 2 average games, their lead was enough to hold off the good games of the Redskins, Raiders, and Tigers. The Hawks finished 112 pins ahead of Ft. Loramie who finished only 27 pins ahead of Russia. MV ends the season at 6-8 overall and 3-8 in WOHSBC matches.
“We had several matches that were within 100 pins and a few that we just did not bring our A-game. And some of the boys always say, “If only I would have thrown my better game,” or “Why does that always happen to us.” Of course some days I wish I had more bowlers to sub in, but it is what it is. These bowlers put in as much work as they can. Several of them work and have other obligations that it gets hard to find the time to practice like some of the other schools do. Maybe we can finish the season with a good showing at Sectionals and maybe get a spot in Districts.”
